The Friends of Fairfax Station is an all-volunteer organization. Income is derived from membership dues, community room rentals, gift shop sales. Admission fees to Sunday opens and special events, and contributions from local organizations and individuals.

Absolutely all of the planning and operation is done by volunteers, headed by a Board of Directors. Of course, we never have enough volunteers. Additional people would spread the work more fairly and even increase the scope of our events and activities

The many opportunities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Docents – giving tours to the public or working in the gift shop during Sunday opens, 1- 4 p.m. Call Ron Beavers at 703-978-6820.

• Museum displays – many opportunities to use your creative skills with our artifacts.

• Gift Shop – inventory, display, and purchasing management.

• Special events – working during events such as the Holiday Train Show. Call Kay Gilbert at 703-323-8285.

• Grounds & Building – outside weeding and pruning, changing light bulbs, small maintenance projects, keeping antique clocks running, updating road sign calendar. Call Tom Burke 703-425-4720.

• Computer assistance – newsletter publishing, membership lists, address labels, etc. Call Kay Gilbert at 703-323-8285.

• Publicity – distribution of flyers and ads for special events.

• Fund-raising – imagination and skills necessary to increase our revenue.

• Caboose restoration – external painting, detailing etc. Call Eric Rodgers at 703-815-8409.

• Model train display – plan and install a permanent display. Call Jeff Mitulla at 7003-362-7791.
